It's Finally Over In Los Angeles

Los Angeles, Calif. --
In a fitting climax to what has been a wild, wonderful trip to Los Angeles,
the North Carolina Tar Heels scored eleven runs in the fourth inning to key a
rain-shortened 12-11 win over the UCLA Bruins and sweep the three-game series at
Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Heavy rains started falling in the bottom of the fifth inning, forcing the end of
the game in the top of the seventh.
UCLA took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second against Tar Heel starter Chris
Elmore. Forrest Johnson's two-run homer keyed the six-run, six-hit inning.
Carolina came storming back in the eleven-run top of the fourth.
The Heels scored their runs on six singles, a 3-run homer by Matt McCay, two hit
batters and four walks off four Bruin pitchers. Tyrell Godwin and Sean Farrell each
drove in two runs in the inning as 14 Tar Heels batted in the inning.
UCLA battled back on the strength of two Bill Scott home runs and a solo shot
by Garrett Atkins.
Carolina got what proved to be the winning run in the top of the fifth
when Clay Hooper's double to left center drove in Adam Greenberg.
UNC got two more across in the top of the seventh before the game was called.
The game reverted back to the 12-11 score at the end of the sixth inning.
Scott Autrey (2-0) picked up the win in relief, while Bobby Roe
(1-1) suffered the loss.
The big inning was reminiscent of Friday night's incredible 13-run
rally in the top of the ninth as UNC overcame a 9-run deficit to take
a 17-13 win.
The Tar Heels (9-0) play host to the East Carolina Pirates Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
at Boshamer Stadium. UCLA (6-4) entertains Pepperdine on Tuesday before a big
three-game weekend series with USC.
