SOPHOMORE (2009)
Flourished as the Tar Heels' top midweek starter and a key right-hander in relief • Posted a 3.49 ERA and 77 strikeouts to just 37 walks in 56 2/3 innings • Went 2-2 with one save in 23 appearances, including seven starts • Held the opposition to a .222 average • Logged a 2.57 ERA in seven ACC outings • Pitched in three NCAA Tournament games, including two relief stints at the College World Series • Carried a no-hitter into the seventh against No. 14 ECU, which entered the game eighth nationally with a .361 team average, April 7 • Over a career-best 6 1/3 innings, struck out a career-high 11, walked three and allowed just one base hit in the seventh against the Pirates • Retired six of the final seven batters faced via the strikeout and fanned two or more in four separate frames • Made two starts the week of April 6-13 - versus No. 14 East Carolina and at No. 20 Florida State - and combined for 17 strikeouts and just one run on seven hits over 17 innings • Worked 4 2/3 innings, allowed just one run and struck out six against the Seminoles in Tallahassee • Made second start against ECU April 22 and struck out eight • Allowed just four hits and four runs over six-plus innings in a tough-luck loss • Pitched five hitless, shutout innings and fanned six versus Princeton March 17 en route to pick up first win of the season • Held No. 18 Coastal Carolina to one unearned run on two hits over five innings Feb. 24 and struck out a then-career high nine • Earned first career save with four strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings at Boston College May 15 • Pitched two scoreless innings of relief at NC State May 8 • Struck out six over 3 1/3 innings of relief against Old Dominion April 1 • Allowed two runs on six hits in a season-long four-inning relief stint against Duke March 22. One of the Tar Heels' top midweek starters as a freshman • Pitched in 14 games, starting seven • Logged a 4-1 record and a 4.14 ERA over 41 1/3 innings • Struck out 42 and walked just 22 • Struck out a career-best seven batters on four occasions • Earned first career victory with seven strikeouts over five innings versus VCU March 12 • Followed with a win, five shutout frames and seven Ks against Princeton March 18 • Struck out six in 4 1/3 innings against Davidson March 25 • Went a career-best 5 1/3 shutout innings and seven strikeouts in a victory over Appalachian State April 2 • Fourth seven-strikeout game came over five innings against Elon April 8 • Final win over the season came when allowing just two hits in five innings at UNC Greensboro April 15 • Pitched three shutout innings of relief at Charlotte April 22 • Made one appearance in the NCAA Tournament, pitching one-third of an inning against Mount St. Mary's May 30. Summer 2008: Pitched in seven games and made four starts for the Cape Cod League champion Harwich Mariners • Posted a 1-3 record and a 4.79 ERA • Struck out 19 and walked eight in 20 2/3 innings.
