Redshirt season • Did not see any game action for the Tar Heels. Summer 2007: Pitched for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League • Went 4-4 with a 1.81 ERA in 10 starts • Tossed two complete-game shutouts (July 19 vs. Outer Banks, 1-0 and Aug. 2 vs. Columbia second game of a doubleheader, 1-0) • Pitched 54 2/3 innings with 48 strikeouts and 22 walks • Held opponents to a .197 average • Named Rawlings CPL Pitcher of the Week for week seven.

Four-year standout at pitcher and first base for Charlotte Christian and coach Greg Simmons • Earned all-state, All-NCISAA, All-Mecklenburg and All-Charlotte Observer honors in 2006 • Two-time all-conference choice • Teamed with UNC classmate Jared Bard to lead team to 2005 and 2006 state titles • Team captain as a senior • Also played football and basketball for two years • Earned the Matt Sobieski Award for most outstanding student-athlete as a senior • Summa Cum Laude student as a junior and senior.
