AS A JUNIOR (2006)

AS A SOPHOMORE (2005)
A weekend starter for the Tar Heels for the second straight season • Went 7-5 on the year and posted a 4.22 earned run average in 16 starts • Third on the team with 77 strikeouts and 89.2 innings pitched • Held opponents to a .219 batting average, which led the staff and was third in the ACC • Was also eighth in the league with 7.73 strikeouts per nine innings • Averaged over six innings per start in ACC play • Fanned at least five batters in 10 of his 16 starts • Opened the season with a 3-1 record and a 1.12 ERA through his first four starts • Struck out a career-best nine batters and allowed just three hits in seven shutout innings versus Princeton March 14 • In his final victory of the season, fired his second career complete game shutout in a two-hitter versus Duke April 24 • Struck out eight over four innings to earn a win in his first start of the season, a win over Seton Hall Feb. 18 • Fanned seven and allowed just one run over seven innings to defeat Wake Forest March 26 • Scattered seven hits over seven innings and battled through a pair of rain delays to beat Virginia April 2 • Also picked up wins against Birmingham Southern and Maryland • Named to the Roger Clemens Award Watch List • Named preaseason first-team All-America by Baseball America and preseason third-team All-America by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA. Twentieth round (604th overall) selection of the New York Yankees after a standout prep career at both Charlotte Christian School and Providence High School • Earned Easton/Collegiate Baseball All-America honors as a senior • Named the 2003 North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year and Charlotte Observer Player of the Year • Also brought home all-conference and all-state accolades as a junior and senior • Led Charlotte Christian to North Carolina 3A Independent Schools state titles in 2002 and '03 • Played with the U.S. Junior National Team over the summer of 2003 • Member of the Region 6 State Games Team as a junior • Also played in East Coast Pro and Area Code Showcases.
