Shalane Flanagan Named Carolina Waterscapes Student-Athlete of the Week
Dec. 1, 2003 Shalane Flanagan won the NCAA Cross Country title for the second year in a row and is the Carolina Waterscapes Student-Athlete of the Week for November 24-30, 2003.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Flanagan won the NCAA National Cross Country Championship for the second consecutive year. Flanagan ran the 6k race in a time of 19:30.4, which was 12 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Flanagan ended her collegiate cross country career by winning the last 10 cross country meets she has ran in, dating back to September of 2002.

LINDSAY TARPLEY Tarpley had a goal and an assist as UNC defeated third-ranked Santa Clara 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd successive year. Tarpley's nine assists are an NCAA Tournament record as are the 23 goals UNC has scored in the 2003 Tournament. Tarpley has 67 points on the season, the most by any UNC player since Mia Hamm in 1993.
MARK CANTY Canty went 3-2 at the Mat-Town USA Invitational Saturday, which was good for a fourth-place finish in his weight class. New to 184 pounds this season, Canty has a 5-4 record.
JAWAD WILLIAMS
Scored a career-high 28 points on 10 of 11 shooting from the floor in the
win over Davidson and and had 24 points and 11 rebounds in the win at
Cleveland State. He had a key offensive rebound and subsequent game-winning
three-point field goal with 1:27 to play in the win at CSU. For the week, he averaged 26 points and 9 rebounds and shot 19 for 29 from
the floor.
