Shalane Flanagan Named Carolina Waterscapes Student-Athlete of the Week
Nov. 18, 2003 CHAPEL HILL-- Shalane Flanagan led the UNC women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the NCAA District championships and won the individual race for her fourth win in as many races this year. Flanagan is the Carolina Waterscapes Student-Athlete of the Week for November 10-16, 2003.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Flanagan won the NCAA Southeast Regionals 6k race with a time of 19:44.4. She helped the Tar Heel women's team to a first-place finish, as UNC garnered 52 points, 12 ahead of second-place finisher N.C. State. Flanagan has won all four meets she has participated in this season and will look to defend her national cross country title on Nov. 24 in Waterloo, Iowa at the NCAA Championships.

VOLLEYBALL Pyles averaged 5.43 digs and 3.00 Kills this weekend in games at Wake Forest and Duke. She tallied 21 digs in a loss to Wake Forest and 17 digs and 14 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Duke. Pyles hit for a percentage of .314 in the victory.
LINDSAY TARPLEY
The sophomore forward tied an NCAA Tournament record with four assists in
UNC's 5-0 NCAA Tournament second round victory over UNC Greensboro Sunday
afternoon. Over the weekend in wins over High Point and UNCG, Tarpley
boosted her season totals to 20 goals and 21 assists. She is now only the
third player in UNC history to have a 20-20 season, joining Mia Hamm in 1992
and Robin Confer in 1997.
