Nov. 13, 2008
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams will take part in the NCAA Southeast Cross Country Regional this weekend in Clemmons, N.C. The women will get things started Saturday morning with an 11 a.m. start at Tanglewood Park, followed by the men's race at 12 noon. The top two teams in each race advance to the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 24, along with the top four individuals not on an advancing team. The women finished third a year ago in the regional as three Tar Heels earned all-region honors and Brie Felnagle captured the individual title with a time of 19:52.25. Seniors Megan Kaltenbach and Addie Bracy finished eighth and 19th respectively for Carolina as Courtlin LaReau and Morgan Stengel closed out the scoring.
The men's season ended a year ago at the Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky. as they finished in 14th place. The men return one fewer scorer than the women from a year ago as Ian Bracy finished third on the squad behind seniors Alex Ray and Tristram Thomas. Brock Baker, who led the Tar Heels at the ACC Championships, finished fourth on the squad a year ago and will be called upon to help lead the Tar Heels to their first NCAA Championships berth since the 1991-92 season.
Action is set to get underway at 11 a.m. Saturday morning in Clemmons, N.C. and is hosted by Wake Forest University. |
