Oct. 31, 2002

Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams will try and knock off last year's champion, NC State, at the ACC Championship, Saturday, November 2, in Atlanta, Ga. The women will start at 10 a.m. and the men will begin at 11 a.m.

Shalane Flanagan returns as a two-time champion and will try and defend her title and lead the Tar Heels to their third championship in its 23-year history.

Brian McGovern will lead the men's team and push for his first Top 10 finish at the championship. Carolina will be seeking its 10th championship in 48 years of competition.

The race is being held on the campus of Georgia Tech University.
