Carolina Women Finish Seventh; Men Finish 36th At Pre-Nationals

Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA preview which featured 97 and 90 teams for the men and women in Terre Haute, Ind., this afternoon. Flanagan captured the individual title for the second straight year with a time of 19:57 in the 6K. Flanagan led the Heels to a seventh-place finish in the blue race. In the women's blue race, Erin Donohue had a 23rd-place finish with her time of 21:07. Liz Awtrey ran the race in 21:38 (51st), while Alice Schmidt finished 76th with a time of 21:53 for the Tar Heels. Jessica Perry (21:54/79th), Jennie Sucher (22:08/100th) and Cassie King (22:18/126th) all competed for Carolina in the NCAA preview finishing in the Top 10. For the men, Brian McGovern led the way with a time of 25:06 in the 8K for 75th place. Crossing the finish line in 200th place was teammate Joel Thomas in 26:11. Robert Borbet and Rob Robertson competed in the event for UNC finishing with times of 26:15 (202nd) and 26:30 (215th), respectively. The final competitor for the Tar Heels was Hunter Graham placing 231st with a time of 26:49. Carolina will have two weeks to get ready for the ACC Championship in Atlanta, Ga., on November 2. The women's race will start at 11 a.m.
