Carolina To Compete At NCAA Preview

Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Preview, in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, October 19th. Carolina women head into the race No. 14 in the country, competing in the women's blue race (11 a.m.) against 13 ranked teams and 22 unranked teams. The men's team will face 11 ranked teams and 19 unranked teams in the men's white race.

Competing in the first race of the day for the women will be Shalane Flanagan, Erin Donohue, Liz Awtrey, Alice Schmidt, Jennie Sucher, Cassie King and Jessica Perry. Flanagan won her only race of the season at the Great American Cross Country Festival (9/27) in the women's 5K (17:49.1). Donohue placed 19th at the meet with a time of 19:06.4 for the only two Top 20 finishes for the Tar Heels. Running for the men's team will be Brian McGovern, Robert Borbet, Rob Robertson, Joel Thomas and Hunter Graham. McGovern was the only UNC runner to finish in the Top 30 at the Great American with a time of 27:16.8 (29th) in the 8K.

In the first race of the day, the women's blue 6,000-meter race at 11:00 a.m. includes: No. 1 BYU, No. 4 Colorado, No. 5 Georgetown, No. 9, Wisconsin, No. 11 Duke, No. 14 North Carolina, No. 15 Boston College, No. 18 Michigan, No. 20 Missouri, No. 23 Marquette, No. 28 Washington, No. 30 Yale, No. 32 Indiana and No. 34 James Madison, as well as Arizona, Ball State, Bucknell, Florida, Harvard, Illinois, Illinois State, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Mississippi State, Montana, Montana State, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rice, Richmond, UC-Santa Barbara, Stony Brook, Texas, Utah and Washington State.

The men's white 8,000-meter race at 12:50 p.m. includes: No. 3 Colorado, No. 7 Georgetown, No. 9 Weber State, No. 16 Iona, No. 18 William and Mary, No. 19 Central Michigan, No. 21 Michigan, No. 23 Duke, No. 26 Montana State, No. 29 Cal Poly-SLO, No. 33 Princeton, No. 34 Washington, No. 35 Michigan State, No. 38 Ohio State, Air Force, Baylor, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cornell, Drake, Florida, Florida State, Illinois State, Iowa State, LaSalle, Loyola, Marquette, Missouri, North Carolina, Oakland, Penn State, Wake Forest, Western Michigan and Yale.
