Oct. 15, 2002

Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina women's cross country team ranks No. 14 in the October 14th poll by FinishLynx rankings. The Tar Heels gained one spot in the poll from last week. Carolina has yet to run a race with its full squad, but will compete Saturday morning with seven of its top eight runners. The Heels will be at the NCAA Preview in Terre Haute, Ind., October 19th.

The voting panel consists of nine regional representatives of the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association plus three at-large voters.

Four ACC teams, including Carolina, are ranked in the October 14th poll. NC State is the highest ranking team in the league at No. 6, while Duke is No. 11 for the fourth time. Virginia moves back to No. 16 from No. 15 last week, while Wake Forest ranks No. 26.
