Oct. 6, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Coming off her first race and first victory of the season senior Brie Felnagle was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week. Felnagle captured the individual title at the Notre Dame Invitational last Friday as she set a new personal best in the 5K event with a time of 16:21. Felnagle is the second Tar Heel to earn the honor after junior Lauren Holesh was named ACC Performer of the Week after the UNC Challenge.

Florida State's Luke Gunn has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week and North Carolina's Brie Felnagle was selected as the ACC Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week.

Gunn earned the men's award after finishing fourth individually at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. In earning the award for the first time this season, the Derby, England, senior covered the 8k course in a school-record time of 23:35 and paced the Seminoles to the team title in a competition that included six other ranked schools.

In her first competition of the season, Felnagle turned in a dominant performance at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., as she led the Tar Heels to a 14th place finish. In a race that included 12 ranked teams, the Tacoma, Wash., senior claimed individual honors with a 5k personal-best time of 16:21.
