Carolina Travels to Charlotte for Great American Festival

Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross-country teams will compete at the Great American Festival, Friday, September 27, in Charlotte, N.C. The men will start at 6:45 p.m. and the women will begin at 7:15 p.m. on the Ballantyne Golf Course.

In women's cross-country, four teams will compete in the race that are ranked in the top 10-No. 1 BYU, No. 2 Georgetown, No. 7 Arkansas and No. 8 Duke. On the men's side, three teams will make an appearance from the top 10-No. 5 Northern Arizona, No. 7 NC State and No. 8 Georgetown.

Competing for the Tar Heels on the women's side will be Liz Awtrey, Erin Donohue, Shalane Flanagan (reigning NCAA Cross Country Runner of the Year), Cassie King, Jessica Perry, Alice Schmidt and Jennie Sucher. Running as individuals will be Nicole Boykin, Lauren Levy, Erin Macbeth, Bobbie Munson and Catalina Palfreman. Competing for the men will be Robert Borbet, Matt Daly, Brian McGovern, Rob Robertson, David Stroupe, Joel Thomas and Dash Victor. Also running in the race will be Pablo Durana and Hunter Graham.

"This meet will be a great indication of what it's going to take to reach nationals," said coach Michael Whittlesey. "After the race, we will know where we stand against the best."
