Kloss Named To Academic All-District Team

June 7, 2007

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Georgia Kloss, a member of the North Carolina cross country and track and field teams, has earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Kloss was named to the 11-member District 3 first team for track and cross country and is now a candidate for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.

A May graduate of UNC with an art history major, Kloss completed her studies with a 3.8 grade point average. She is competing in the 800 meters this weekend at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif.

Kloss is a four-time All-America honoree and three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection. She was a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that set an American record and won a second consecutive NCAA title at the the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.

A team captain in her junior and senior years, she earned Dean's List and ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition in each year of her college career and was selected for the Athletic Director's Scholar Athlete Award as a senior. She participated in the Carolina Leadership Academy, earning the organization's highest leadership honor, the Three-Dimensional Leader (3-DL) Award.

To be a candidate for the all-district and All-America teams, a student-athlete must carry a grade point average of 3.2 or better. First and second teams in University and College divisions were announced Thursday for eight districts across the U.S.
