NC State Sweeps ACC Championship Titles

Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams competed at the ACC Championship in Atlanta, Ga., this morning. UNC women finished fifth with 88 points, while the men finished seventh with 187 points. Flanagan won the women's 6K with a time of 20:06.3, 12 seconds ahead of second-place finisher, Florida State's Vicky Gill. The individual title was Flanagan's third straight, making her the second woman to ever accomplish that feat (UNC's Karen Godlock was the only other ACC performer to win three consecutive ACC crowns from 1994-96). The Top five for the women's race were; NC State, 61, Wake Forest, 61, Virginia, 78, Duke, 81 and North Carolina, 88. The Top five for the men were; NC State, 17, Duke, 69, Virginia, 95, Clemson, 103 and Florida State, 123. In the women's race, Alice Schmidt, Liz Awtrey, Erin Donohue, Bobbie Munson and Nicole Boykin competed for the Tar Heels. Schmidt finished 14th with a time of 21:37.1. Awtrey ended the race in 16th place (21:43.5) and Donohue placed 24th (22:04.5). Munson finished with a time of 22:24.9, 33rd place, while teammate Boykin finished 48th with a time of 23:33.8. Brian McGovern, Robert Borbet, Joel Thomas, Hunter Graham, Dash Victor, Matt Daly and Pablo Durana all competed for the Heels. McGovern was the highest finisher for Carolina with a time of 25:17.5 (13th) in the men's 8K. Borbet finished in 38th place with a time of 26:10.7, while Thomas was one spot behind him with a time of 26:12.3 (39th). Graham finished in the Top 50 with his time of 26:34.5, good enough for 47th. Victor ran in his last cross country race for the Tar Heels and finished with a time of 26:46.8 (51st). Daly and Durana rounded out the competitors for UNC with times of 27:04.2 (56th) and 27:17.2 (57th).
Carolina will travel to Greenville, N.C., November 16, for the NCAA District III Championship. The NCAA regional race will begin at 11 a.m.
