Tar Heel Women Finish Fourth At ACC Championships
Oct. 27, 2007 Women's Results | Men's Results | Photo Gallery Earlysville, Va. - Brie Felnagle continued her outstanding cross country season Saturday as she took home third place at the ACC Championships in Earlysville, Va. Felnagle crossed the line 20:52.5 to post her second-straight top three finish. Megan Kaltenbach was not far behind as she finished in 21:27.6 for 10th place and both earned All-ACC honors. Alex Ray led the men's squad with a 22nd place finish in 24:54.0. Both teams will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 10 when they travel to Louisville, Ky. for the Southeast Regional Championships. The men got things going at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. as they tackled the 8K race. Alex Ray once again ran a solid race for the Tar Heels as he finished in 22nd place with a time of 24:54.0. The rest of the Carolina contingent finished in a cluster led by Ian Bracy who finished in 52nd place and a time of 25:55.8 less than a second ahead of teammate Brock Baker who finished in 53rd place.
Tristram Thomas was not far behind the duo of Bracy and Baker as he took home 57th place with a time of 26:01.7. Zack Dawson wrapped up the scoring for Carolina as he crossed the line in 26:06.4 and 62nd place. Nick Hutchins (72nd/26:31.5) and Stephen Bloemeke (81st/27:10.1) were unable to score for the Tar Heels but finished close to the group of Carolina runners.
The women's race was what head coach Michael Whittlesey has seen all year with Brie Felnagle and Megan Kaltenbach leading the way. Felnagle finished in third place for the Tar Heels giving the team an early boost as she crossed the line in 20:52.5, just one of four runners to break the 21-minute mark. Not far behind Felnagle was Megan Kaltenbach who placed 10th in the race with a time of 21:27.6 in the 6K race. Addie Bracy got into the act finishing 22nd on the day after being on the course for 22:08.2. Bracy improved her time by almost a minute from a year ago. Morgan Stengle finished fourth for the Tar Heels with a time of 22:33.4 which was good for 35th overall. Stengle also posted a time almost exactly a minute faster than in 2006. Rounding out the scoring for Carolina was Courtlin LaReau who finished 48th in a time of 23:01.3. Finishing sixth, seventh and eighth for the Tar Heels was Emily Hoffman (62nd/23:33.3), Caley Booth (69th/23:53.8) and Lauren Holesh (73rd/24:06.6). Carolina will head to Louisville, Ky. to open the postseason at the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 10. The Tar Heels will send a few runners to the Wolfpack Invite on Saturday, Nov. 3 in Cary, N.C.
