Gowda Fails to Qualify in Men's Discus

Beijing - Former Tar Heel Vikas Gowda, representing his home country India, did not advance Saturday in the Men's Discus throw. In Gowda's three attempts, he hit a top distance of 60.69 meters (191'2"). In order to advance, athletes must reach a distance of 64.50 meters or be one of the top 12 athletes in their group. Out of 37 athletes, 12 will advance to the Men's Discus Final August 19th. Malachowski Piotr of Poland, led all athletes with a top throw of 65.94 meters. Vikas Gowda was a three-time All-America at the University of North Carolina, and also placed 14th in the Men's Discus in the 28th Olympiad in Athens, Greece.
