Former Tar Heels Qualify For Olympic Trials
Gamble and Lipson-Blutreich meet standards in triple jump and javelin.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Former UNC athletes Nicole Gamble
and Lynda Lipson-Blutreich met qualifying standards
for the 2000 United States Olympic Track Trials in a
U.S. Trials qualifying meet held Sunday at Belk Track
in Chapel Hill. Gamble's triple jump of 44-02.50
surpassed the trial qualifying mark of 43-0.25 and
qualified Gamble to compete in the trials to be held
July 14-23 in Sacramento, Calif. Tiombe Hurd, Shakeema
Walker and Natasha Gibson joined Gamble in meeting
triple jump qualifying distances for Sacramento.
Blutreich's javelin throw of 186-04.00 easily beat
the trial qualifying mark of 164-0. Blutreich is
ranked No. 1 in the country in the javelin and had
already qualified for the Olympic Trials.
