CHAPEL HILL --- Laura Gerraughty was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's track and field/cross country team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Wednesday. A graduate student with senior eligibility, Gerraughty finished her undergrad work with a 3.65 grade point average in biology.

Gerraughty was the NCAA runner-up in the indoor shot put in 2006 and currently leads the nation in that event during the outdoor season. The Nashua, N.H., native is a three-time NCAA champion in the shot and competed in the 2004 Olympics in the event. After winning the shot in the NCAA East Regional meet last weekend, Gerraughty is considered a favorite to win the NCAA title next weekend in Sacramento, Calif.
