Felnagle & Norris Named Progress Energy Performers Of The Week

Brie Felnagle won a pair of ACC titles and Lisa Norris pitched a pair of complete game shutouts to share Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week honors for April 14-20, 2008.

Felnagle claimed a pair of titles at the ACC Outdoor Championships over the weekend as she helped lead the Tar Heels to a third place finish. Felnagle earned her fifth ACC championship of her career in the 1500-meter run when she clocked a 4:19.94. The Tacoma, Wash. native would later go on to claim her sixth title when she captured the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:22.66 en route to setting a new site record in Atlanta on Saturday.

Norris led the No. 15 Tar Heels to a perfect 5-0 week, including the first-ever sweep of NC State over the weekend. Norris tossed 14 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just four hits in her two shutout victories. The Snellville, Ga. native struck out 15 during the week, including 12 in Carolina's 3-0 win over Coastal Carolina on Wednesday. For the year, Norris ranks second in the ACC with a 0.86 ERA and owns a 16-3 record in the circle.

Men's Lacrosse, Midfielder
Junior, Ellicott City, Md.

Junior midfielder Shane Walterhoefer won the third most face-offs in a match in University of North Carolina men's lacrosse history to lead the Tar Heels to a 13-9 victory over Hofstra on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Kenan Stadium. Walterheofer won 20 of 25 face-offs, winning 80 percent of his draws versus the Pride. He also had a game-high nine ground balls in the match. The previous week against Ohio State, Walterhoefer won a UNC single game record 23 face-offs. Over the past two matches, the junior midfielder has won 43 of 51 face-offs won and scooped up 24 ground balls, including a school record 15 versus Ohio State.

TIM FEDROFF
Baseball, Right Field
Sophomore, Flagtown, N.J.

Right fielder Tim Fedroff led No. 4 North Carolina to an unbeaten week by hitting .409 (9-22) with six runs, seven RBI, five extra-base hits, two home runs and three stolen bases. He opened the week by becoming the first Tar Heel in recent memory to hit for the cycle at UNC Greensboro. Fedroff was 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and two walks in the 14-3 win. The Flagtown, N.J., native also had a big game in the opener with Boston College, going 2-for-4 with three RBI on a double and a two-run home run. In Sunday's series finale, Fedroff drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a fifth-inning single. Fedroff, who also stole three bases on the week, leads Carolina with a .398 average and nine home runs and is second on the team with 40 RBI and 10 steals.

CHASE MACFARLAND
Men's Golf
Junior, Savannah, Ga.

Chase MacFarland was the runner-up at the 2008 ACC Men's Golf Championship played at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, N.C. MacFarland posted a nine-under-par 207 total after firing a four-under 68 in the first round followed by an even par 72 in the second round and a five-under 67 in the final round. MacFarland's 67 on Sunday was highlighted by eight birdies, including six out of seven on consecutive holes. He finished five strokes behind Wake Forest's Webb Simpson who grabbed the individual title after carding a 14-under 202 total, an ACC record.

The Tar Heels fired three under-par rounds on their way to a third-place finish at 18-under 846. Carolina fired a six-under 282 in the first round followed by a three-under 285 in the second round and a nine-under 279 in the final round. Florida State captured the team championship marking the Seminoles first ACC title.

SECOND VARSITY EIGHT
Rowing

At the ACC Championship Regatta on Saturday, the Tar Heel second varsity eight turned in the surprise performance of the day, finishing third after entering the race as the No. 5 seed. Carolina's time was 6:55.1, behind first-place Virginia (6:31.4) and second-place Clemson (6:36.8). Duke, Boston College and Miami rounded out the field. UNC's lineup was Paige Wall (coxswain), Diane Reynolds, Chandler Sours, Andi Drabot, Andrea McGovern, Katie Wood, JoAnne Rogers, Kelsey Grich and Kristi Roblin. The Tar Heels finished fourth overall, their best finish ever in the event.

SYDNEY CRANE
Women's Golf
Junior, Jamestown, N.C.

Sydney Crane tied for ninth place at the 2008 ACC Women's Golf Championship played at LPGA International Legend's Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. Crane finished with a six-over-par 222 total after firing a pair of three-over 75s in the first and final rounds and an even par 72 sandwiched in the middle. Crane finished 10 strokes behind Amanda Blumenherst of Duke who won her second consecutive ACC title.

The Tar Heels finished in fifth place with a 904 total after carding rounds of 304-302-298. Duke captured the team title with an 871 total, posting a one-stroke win over Virginia.

KRISTEN TAYLOR
Women's Lacrosse, Attacker
Sophomore, Manlius, N.Y.

Taylor tallied five goals and four assists in two Tar Heel games last week. The sophomore attacker had three goals and a game-high four assists last Wednesday in Carolina's 19-7 win at Old Dominion. She followed up that effort with two goals in Carolina's 16-3 loss at No. 1 Northwestern on Sunday.
