2008 Senior Class To Be Honored At Tony Waldrop Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina Track and Field team will recognize its senior class on Saturday at the Tony Waldrop Invitational. Twelve Carolina seniors will be recognized, including a pair of national champions in Tyra Johnson and Megan Kaltenbach. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. with the senior recognition scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
Tar Heel Men Bremen de Haan has been a hurdler for the Tar Heels for the past two years after transferring from Rhode Island. De Haan scored at the 2007 ACC Indoor Championships with a fifth place finish. The Galloway, New Jersey native has competed in the 60, 100, 200, 60-hurdles and 110-hurdles during his two years at Carolina. Alex Ray has been a prominent figure in the Carolina cross country program for the past four years as he has led the Tar Heels as the top performer during the 2007 season after being a consistent scorer as a sophomore and junior. The Oak Ridge, North Carolina native has competed in the 800, 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 during his time in Chapel Hill.
Ian Reynolds has been a consistent performer for the Tar Heels in the throws during his three years at Carolina. Reynolds has scored in the shot put at four of the five ACC Championships he has competed in with a fourth place finish during the indoor championships in 2007. The Skillman, New Jersey native is a two-time All-ACC Academic selection.
Tar Heel Women Porscha Dobson will leave Carolina as one of the fastest hurdlers in school history. The Roselle, New Jersey native owns the fourth-fastest 60-meter hurdle time in the Carolina record books. Dobson twice earned All-ACC honors in the 60-meter hurdles once as a freshman and once again during her final indoor season in 2007. Emily Hoffman has been a key component to the Tar Heels' recent National Championship appearances in cross country. Hoffman competed in the NCAA Championships the past two years and scored for Carolina in 2007. The Cary, North Carolina native is also a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll Member. Colleen Farley has been a fixture in the 400-meter hurdles for Carolina the past four years. Farley has scored at the past two ACC Outdoor Championships in the 400-meter hurdles while adding points at the ACC Indoor Championships in the 800. The Williamstown, Massachusetts native has been recognized as a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and has been named to the Dean's List. Erika Foushee has been a jack-of-all-trades during her time at Carolina competing in the jumps, the sprints and the hurdles. Fousheé scored at last year's ACC Indoor Championships with an eighth place finish in the triple jump, while placing in the long jump, triple jump and 400-meter hurdles during the outdoor season. The Raleigh native has competed in the 60, 200, 400, 400-hurdles, long jump and triple jump at Carolina while also being named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. Tyra Johnson will leave Carolina with a title that only 31 former Tar Heels have next to their names, National Champion. Johnson was a member of the 2007 American record-breaking indoor distance medley relay team that captured the national title a year ago. Johnson's name is littered throughout the Carolina record books, as she owns the second-best 60-meter dash time to go along with her top relay time in the distance medley relay. The Henderson, North Carolina native has also been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll the past two years while also competing in the 100 and 200. Megan Kaltenbach has done something as a Tar Heel that only 12 other people can claim as she claimed not one but two national championships during her time at Carolina. Kaltenbach was a member of both the 2006 and 2007 indoor distance medley relay teams that captured back-to-back national titles. A five-time All-ACC selection, including the past three years in cross country, Kaltenbach has also been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll as a Tar Heel. Alison McGinnis has performed well not only in the field of competition but also in the classroom as she was named a USTFCCCA Academic All-American a year ago. The pole vaulter scored at the ACC Outdoor Championships a year ago before claiming the pole vault title at the Duke Twilight Meet with a personal best. The Arlington Heights, Illinois native has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll the past two years. Jocelyn White entered Carolina four years ago as one of the best high school throwers and more than lived up to the billing as she would go on to claim three All-ACC recognitions as well as being named an All-America as a freshman. White was also named the ACC Freshman of the Year during her first ACC action at the ACC Indoor Championships. The Glassboro, New Jersey native will leave Carolina with the third-best weight throw, fourth-best discus and fifth-best hammer throw mark in school annals. |
