NCAA East Regional Day One Quotes
May 25, 2007
NCAA East Regional Day One Quotes Bobby Curtis, Villanova - Men's 5,000m Champion: "Josh McDougal came in as the fastest guy in the country, so I knew he was the one to beat. The 5,000m is a tactical race, but I knew I had the strength and the speed and things worked out well. It's definitely a big confidence booster that I beat the No. 1 guy in the country as well as a lot of other great runners." Rory Quiller, Binghamton - Men's Pole Vault Champion: "It's my fourth time at this meet and my first win, so it feels really good right now. Breaking the meet record was nice, especially since Brian Mondschein, the guy who held the record, was here to watch. This meet is so young that the record isn't quite that high, and there is a lot of talent on the east coast. If any one of those guys catches it on a good day, the record could get as high as 18-6 or 18-8. The wind wasn't bad, and it's nice to be in the warm Florida weather. Coming from New York, we're happy when it's not snowing." Sam Tilly, Campbell - Men's Long Jump Champion: "I was seeded third coming into the meet, and I was looking for a top-five, just like everybody here. It blew my mind to take first. The sky's the limit. My personal best can go a lot higher, and my goal is to be an All-American." Wes Stockbarger, Florida - Men's Discus Champion: "I felt really good out there today. I think I could have thrown a bit further, but I got a PR and the regional record and that's not too bad. My consistency has been really good lately and it came through today. I think it's the biggest win of my career. I really wanted to get the East Region title and record, so that feels great." Nick Owens, North Carolina - Men's Hammer Champion:
"It feels good. I was hoping for a little better throw today, but I'm glad I won. I thought I did a good job early on, and the heat kind of
caught up to me at the end, but I was able to get a good throw on the fifth (attempt). The competition was great. Everyone was a little
tentative at first, but at the end everyone gave it all they had."
Michelle Sikes, Wake Forest - Women's 5,000m Champion: "It feels brilliant. We got really lucky because the wind died down before the race started, and so we got a totally flat, clear night that was really fun to run in. Sacramento is going to be wonderful. I can't wait." Carin Knight, Connecticut - Women's High Jump Champion: "I don't believe it. When I came here, I was just thinking about being in the top five. I am so excited, so pumped. My coach told me I could do this, and when I got over the first time, I was like, `OK, I can do this,' and I went on from there." Amy Seward, Miami (Fla.) - Women's Long Jump Champion: "It's truly a blessing to win. This is my highest finish at regionals in the four years that I've been here. I just really wanted to go out with a bang. Hopefully this will boost me to make finals in Sacramento, and I want to finish the year better than I ever have before." Brittany Pryor, Virginia Tech - Women's Shot Put Champion: "It's quite a feeling. I tried a new technique and I'm glad it's working out. I'm glad to be going out to Sacramento. Regionals is really touchy because you could have three bad throws and foul out, but it feels great to win out here today." Krista Woodward, Georgia - Women's Javelin Champion: "It was a big struggle because I wasn't throwing very well at all at the beginning, but I came up with a pretty good throw on my last one. That last throw is the only reason why I'm a little happy about the day. Hopefully this will give me some momentum heading to the national championships." |
