WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The North Carolina track and field multi athletes opened competition at the Deacon Combined Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C. Tuesday afternoon. Mateo Sossah and Daniel Keller finished 1-2 in the high jump in the decathlon competition, while Matthew Villemain finished fourth in the event on the opening day. Gabby Gioia, Danielle Brock and Alexandra Coppadge were also in competition in the heptathlon on Tuesday.

Mateo Sossah sits at 3,031 points after five events, despite not finishing the 400-meter dash. Daniel Keller failed to finish the 400 as well and has tallied 2,997 points through five events after the opening day. Leading the Tar Heel contingent for the men is Matthew Villemain who has scored 3,356 points after five events.

On the women's side, Danielle Brock has scored 2,943 points through four events in the heptathlon. Gabby Gioia, the ACC heptathlon champion, has posted 3,061 points on the opening day, while Alexandra Coppadge has led the Tar Heels with 3,304 points.

The decathlon and heptathlon will both wrap up on Wednesday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
