Kloss, McGinnis Take Titles At Duke Twilight Meet

May 7, 2007

Georgia Kloss coasted to a win in the women's 800 meters and Alison McGinnis turned in a career-best 12-5 1/2 effort in the women's pole vault to tie for first place in the event as select members of the North Carolina men's and women's track teams competed Sunday evening at the Duke Twilight Meet.

Kloss crossed the line in 2:06.71 to best the field by almost four seconds and McGinnis' clearance qualified her to compete at the NCAA Regional meet. McGinnis tied with Elon's Jessica Clendenning for the event win.

Also competing for the UNC women were Morgan Stengel, who ran a 10:51.95 in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase to post a runner-up finish to Duke's Liz Wort, and La'Shonda Carter, whose 19-1 1/2 leap in the women's long jump put her in third place.

The Tar Heel men were paced by Britt Taylor and Ian Reynolds. Taylor recorded a 23-5 1/2 mark in the men's long jump, which gave him a third-place finish. Reynolds, meanwhile, threw 53-7 in the shot put to place fourth.

The UNC track teams will next be in action on Friday, when they will compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational and the UNC Elite meet.
