Ryncavage Breaks School Javelin Record In Penn Relays Win

April 29, 2006

PHILADELPHIA --- Justin Ryncavage broke a 14-year old school record on his way to winning the javelin throw Saturday at the Penn Relays. His mark of 241 feet, 3 inches (73.55 meters) topped the old standard of 240-8 set by Sean Murray in 1992. Ryncavage currently ranks third in the nation in the event.

The only other Tar Heel in action Saturday was Nick Owens, who finished second in the hammer throw. His top mark of 223-2 (68.02m) was just .02 meters behind Brian Richotte of Radford. Owens is currently fifth in the nation in the event.

Carolina will now take some time off for final exams before returning to the Georgia Tech Invitational May 12.
