Gerraughty Wins Shot At Penn Relays
April 27, 2006
PHILADELPHIA --- Laura Gerraughty won the shot put at the Penn Relays for the fourth time in her career Thursday to lead the University of North Carolina track and field teams. Rhian Jenks was second in the pole vault, while the women's distance medley relay was eighth. After winning three straight shot put titles from 2002 to 2004, Gerraughty missed last year's meet due to an injury. But the Nashua, N.H., senior returned to Franklin Field Thursday with a winning throw of 59 feet, 2 3/4 inches (18.05m). Jenks had a top height of 12-5 1/2 (3.80m) in the pole vault, matching her best effort of the season thus far. The DMR of Brie Felnagle, Danielle Rodgers, Georgia Kloss and Megan Kaltenbach clocked in with a time of 11:24.54. Action resumes Friday morning at 9 with the men's 400-meter hurdles featuring UNC's Reggie Berry.
