CHAPEL HILL --- Seven members of the University of North Carolina track and field teams won individual events Saturday at the Carolina Fast Times meet at Irwin Belk Track and Fetzer Field. The ninth-ranked women were led by Georgia Kloss, Rhian Jenks and Jocelyn White, while the 13th-ranked men were led by Pablo Durana, Daniel Keller, Vikas Gowda and Adam Montague.

Kloss ran a season-best time of 2:05.78 in the 800 meters, an NCAA regional qualifier and the fourth-fastest time in the nation this year. Teammate Megan Kaltenbach just missed the regional standard with a second-place time of 2:10.77.

Jenks won the pole vault with a regional qualifying mark of 12-5 1/2 (3.80 meters) that equals her best effort of the season.

White had a personal best effort of 180-1 (54.90m) in the discus that moves her into the top 10 in the nation in 2006. Teammates Laura Gerraughty, Marija Kurtovic and Riana Lynn finished 2-3-4, with each woman hitting a regional qualifier.

Two other Tar Heels had regional qualifying efforts Saturday. Kelly Fazekas surpassed the 50-foot mark for the first time in her career with a mark of 50-0 3/4 (15.26m). Sheena Gordon, jumping into a stiff wind, qualified in the triple jump with a leap of 40-10 1/4 (12.45m).

On the men's side, Durana won the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:55.29. Tristram Thomas was just behind him in third in 3:58.03.

Keller won the pole vault with a top mark of 15-7 (4.75m).

Gowda, who is already second in the nation in the discus, won with a throw of 197-5 (60.18m). Nick Owens, who broke his own school record in the hammer Friday, was second in the discus with a mark of 177-5 (54.09).

Montague triumphed in the javelin with a regional qualifying mark of 210-7 (64.20m).

Next up for Carolina is the ACC Championships. The three-day meet begins Thursday at Wake Forest.
