Carolina thrower Ibe Bilaye-Benibo broke Carolina records in the shot put and weight throw at this weekend's Blue Heaven Rumble held at the Eddie Smith Fieldhouse on the campus of UNC.

Bilaye-Benibo's first-place shot of 50-6 on Saturday is a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Indoor Championships and also breaks the old UNC record by more than a foot. Bilaye-Benibo set a new Carolina record in the women's weight throw Friday with a throw of 57-11.

Carolina's Sal Gigante also set a new Tar Heel record Friday when he placed first in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional toss of 67-11.

Tar Heel Brent Callaway took first place in the pole vault and earned an NCAA provisional mark with a vault of 17-0 3/4. Zach Victor placed second in the mile with a time of 4:12.49, and teammate Michael Cvelbar finished second in the heptathlon with 5,090 points.

UNC had two throwers in the top five of the shot put. Ian Douglas took third at 55-1 1/2 and Gigante placed fifth with a throw of 52-2 3/4. John Hubbard had a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6-7.

On the women's side, Carol Henry won the mile with a time of 4:51.98 and Rebecca Walker finished third in the mile at 4:58.67. Anissa Gainey had two top-six finishes, placing fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.62 and sixth in the 200m dash with a mark of 24.77.

Erin Donohue finished the 800m run in sixth place with a time of 2:15.52 and was followed closely by Bobbie Munson in ninth at 2:16.71. Liz Awtrey placed eighth in the 3000m with a run of 9:57.45, while Lindsey Bond ran the 60m hurdles in 8.80, good for seventh place.

Three Carolina pole vaulters, Rebecca Post, Terri Matthews and Laura Risi, vaulted 10-11 3/4 to finish in a seventh-place tie.

Lashawn Gee was the highest-placing Tar Heel in the long jump with an eighth-place finish and a leap of 19-0 3/4.

The Tar Heels are back in action Feb. 1-2 when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Invitational.
