The University of North Carolina track and field team got off to a fast start Friday at the New Balance Invitational at the Armory Track & Field center. A total of 11 sprinters and hurdlers were in competition Friday, as the track and field team split up this weekend as fellow teammates traveled to Blacksburg, Va. to compete in the Virginia Tech Invite.

The University of North Carolina track program was looking at a weekend finish full of top marks in almost every event student-athletes were entered in when Saturday's icy forecast cut competition short disallowing the Tar Heels to host day-two of its third home meet in 2010. Zach Brown set a new school record - for the second week in a row - in the men's 60, as well as seven other first place finishes by Carolina.

North Carolina's track and field teams finished up at the two-day Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday with several high finishes as well as two first-place nods, one earned by the men's 4x400 relay and the other by Jacinda Evans in the long jump. The men's squad only entered only relay for the meet and took home first with a time of 3:14.24, almost a full second faster than the remainder of the field.
