Megan Steeves Named ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week

Oct. 21, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Megan Steeves have been selected the season's first Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Women's Performer of the Week. The league recognition is a career first for her.

Steeves, a junior from Newark, Del., has a pair of wins and a pair of runner-up finishes to open the 2008-09 campaign. Against No. 7 ranked Georgia, Steeves swam two league best times in the 100 back and 100 free. She finished second in both events with times of 55.18 and 50.68. Against South Carolina, Steeves won both the 100 back (55.64) and 200 back (1:59.64) events. She also swam the leadoff leg of UNC's winning 400 free relay team against South Carolina. Her time in the 200 back is also the fastest in the league this season.

North Carolina will travel this weekend to the Dallas Classic to face one of the nation's best fields. The meet runs Friday and Saturday nights and will start at 7 p.m. (CT).
