UNC Swimmers Excel At Open Water Event

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. - North Carolina sophomore Chip Peterson led a large corps of Tar Heel swimmers who competed in the 4th Annual Pier-2-Pier Open Water Swim Race last Saturday in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. Peterson, a sophomore from Pine Knoll Shores, N.C., won the overall men's titel in the race in a time of 33 minutes, 25.29 seconds.

The event is hosted by the Cape Fear Aquatic Club and the Wilmington Family YMCA. Competition is held for participants aged 11 and up. It is a 1.7 mile course between the Johnny Mercer and Crystal Piers in Wrightsville Beach.

Peterson won the 19-24 age group and the overall title.

Several other Tar Heels competed in the event and here are their finishes.
