Aug. 3, 2008
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - North Carolina's Joe Kinderwater and Tyler Harris finished up the Tar Heels' competition Sunday morning in the 2008 U.S. Open at Minneapolis, Minn. The two sophomore Tar Heels competed in the 2008 U.S. Open Water Championships with Kinderwater finishing third in a time of just less than two hours. For the second straight year Kinderwater was named to the U.S. National Team in open water swimming in only his second year of competing in the sport. Harris was competing in his first-ever open water 10K event in his career after a strenuous week of swimming in which he swam five events. "We're very proud of Joe for making the National Team for the second straight year," said UNC assistant coach Catherine Vogt who departs this week for her new job at USC. Vogt is one of the National Team coaches for open water swimming. "We're also very proud of Tyler's effort. It was his first-ever 10K race and he did a great job."
