UNC Boasts Three Top 16 Finishers At Olympic Trials

LONG BEACH, CALIF. - The University of North Carolina swimming program had three swimmers post Top 16 finishes in the 2004 United States Olympic Swimming Trials which concluded last week in Long Beach, Calif. Sean Quinn, a 2003 Tar Heel graduate, had the top final placing at 15th, while rising junior Josh Glasco was the top qualifier at 12th in the 200-meter butterfly.

Glasco, a Richmond native, qualified 12th in the preliminaries of the 200 fly as he swam a time of 2:01.31. He went on to finish 16th in the semifinals of the event.

Quinn, a Lancaster, S.C. native, qualified 16th in the 200-meter breaststroke and then placed 15th in the semifinals with a time of 2:18.67.

Rising senior Reid Owen of Knoxville, Tenn. placed 16th in the preliminaries of the 1500-meter freestyle with a time of 15:43.01.

The top women's finisher for UNC was rising senior Jessie Brosch of University Park, Md. The two-time UNC swimming captain placed 17th in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:15.30.

Other Tar Heels competing in the Olympic Trials included incoming freshman Lindsey Marck,. rising juniors Chad Ames and Lizzy Bruce and 2004 graduate Whitney Smith.
