Peterson Takes Silver At Pan Am Games

RIO DE JAINERO, BRAZIL - Chip Peterson of the University of North Carolina took the silver medal on July 14 in 10 kilometer marathon swimming at the 15th Pan American Games in Rio de Jainero, Brazil.

Peterson finished second in 2 hours, 2 minutes, 29.2 seconds. The 20-year-old from Pine Knoll Shores, N.C., was 5.1 seconds behind the U.S.'s Fran Crippen, 23, a Virginia graduate, as ACC swimmers took the top two medals. Crippen won in a time of 2 hour, 2 minutes, 24.1 seconds.

Brazil's Allan Carmo took the bronze medal.
