North Carolina Finalizes 2006-07 Swimming & Diving Recruiting
June 28, 2007 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Head swimming coach Rich DeSelm of the University of North Carolina swimming and diving team recently wrapped recruiting for the 2006-07 year with a total of eight women and 15 men joining the Tar Heel program this fall. Erica Schiffler In the fall UNC signed the following men's recruits: Andrew Brake hails from Springfield, Va. He swims for the Curl-Burke Swim Club where he is coached by Pete Morgan. His best times are 1:52.50 in the 200-yard IM, 3:59.10 in the 400-yard IM, 51.40 in the 100-yard fly, 1:50.80 in the 200-yard fly and 51.98 in the 100-yard back. Brake attends Lake Braddock High School. Robert Grimmett-Norris is a native of Herndon, Va. and he attends Georgetown Preparatory School. Grimmett-Norris also swims for Curl-Burke Swim Club where his coach is John Flanagan. The career bests for Grimmett-Norris are 49.55 in the 100-yard fly, 1:49.74 in the 200-yard fly, 4:02.84 in the 400-yard IM and 1:41.34 in the 200-yard free. Joshua Hafkin attends Georgetown Preparatory School. He is a native of Rockville, Md. Hafkin competes for the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club under the guidance of coach Jim Williams. Career bests are 20.88 in the 50-yard free, 46.22 in the 100-yard free, 1:43.30 in the 200-yard free, 48.75 in the 100-yard back, 1:47.60 in the 200-yard back and 51.00 in the 100-yard fly. Joe Kinderwater swims for coach Mike Gobrecht at the WSY (West Shore YMCA). He hails from Lancaster, Pa. and attends Hempfield High School. Personal bests are 4:26.80 in the 500-yard free, 9:12.33 in the 1000-yard free and 15:23.90 in the 1650-yard free. Tommy Wyher is a native of New Port Richey, Fla., and attends Tampa Jesuit High School. Personal bests are 48.13 in the 100-yard fly, 48.86 in the 100-yard back, 45.41 in the 100-yard free and 20.87 in the 50-yard free. Wyher swims for coach Rich Rogers at Tampa Bay Aquatics. William Tyler Harris is a native of Richmond, Va., where he attends The Steward School. He swims for coach Ted Sallade at Poseidon Swimming. One of UNC's most versatile recruits, his career best times are 1:47.75 in the 200 fly, 1:51.69 in the 200-yard IM, 3:51.25 in the 400-yard IM, 57.90 in the 100-yard breaststroke, 2:01.87 in the 200-yard breaststroke, 1:40.92 in the 200-yard free, 4:29.09 in the 500-yard free, 9:15.35 in the 1000-yard free and 15:35.73 in the 1650-yard free. David Zolno of Austin, Texas attends Westlake High School. He swims for coach Randy Reese at Longhorn Aquatics and for coach Issa Grombacher at Westlake High School. Zolno has career best times of 21.10 in the 50-yard free, 46.12 in the 100-yard free, 1:43.79 in the 200-yard free and 1:00.16 in the 100-yard breaststroke. This past fall, Carolina inked the following women's recruits: Rebecca Kane swims for coach Louis Petrozziello at the Jersey Gators. She is from Toms River, N.J. and attends Monsignor Donovan High School. She has won five N.J. state titles, three in the 50 free and two in the 100 free and is also a senior national qualifer. A six-time All-America, she is the state high school record holder in both freestyle sprint events. Her career bests for the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles are 23.21, 50.77 and 1:51.47. Katura Harvey is a native of Rockville, Md. and attends Richard Montgomery High School. A superb distance freestyler, she has career bests of 1:48.66, 4:48.68, 9:49.88 and 16:33.07 in the 200, 500, 1000- and 1650-yard freestyle events. Harvey is a member of the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club where her coach is Scott Vekeman. Allison Barnes of Towson, Md. attends Vestavia Hills High School and swims for coach Paul Yetter at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. She has career best times of 1:51.53 in the 200-yard free, 4:52.19 in the 500-yard free, 10:00.67 in the 100-yard free and 16:55.88 in the 1650-yard free. She has also clocked a 2:03.97 in the 200-yard back.
Kathryn Marsh of Ocean Ridge, Fla. and Saint Andrews High School is a pupil under Coaches Sid Cassidy of the Florida Atlantic Swim Team and Coach Alan Williams. Her career best times: 1:04.5/2:18.27 Breast
