Five Tar Heel Swimmers Earn CSCAA All-Academic Awards

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Five University of North Carolina swimmers have earned the College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team honors for the 2003-04 school year, it was announced Monday. The Tar Heel honorees include seniors Becky Acker (Richmond, Va.), Jessi Perruquet (Danville, Pa.), Whitney Smith (Richmond, Va.) and Yuri Suguiyama (Ijamsville, Md.) as well as sophomore Emily Carroll (Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.).

Nominees for the CSCAA All-Academic Team are required to carry a 3.50 or better cumulative grade point average and receive an NCAA Tournament invitation.

Perruquet and Suguiyama were both named CSCAA first-team All-Americas in the pool in 2003-04 as well with Perruquet earning honors in the 200-meter freestyle and Suguiyama in the 400-meter freestyle.
