UNC Swimmers & Divers Reap Academic Honors In Spring Semester
June 19, 2002 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams did a stellar job in the classroom in the spring semester of 2002 as 40 of the 57 swimmers and divers earned grade point averages of 3.0 or above for the semester. The women's team had a semester grade point average of 3.251 this past spring while the men were not far behind at 3.013. Eighteen student-athletes (nine men and nine women) were named to the Dean's List during the spring semester. To make the Dean's List a student must have at least a 3.2 GPA with 15 or more credit hours or at least a 3.5 GPA with 14 or less credit hours. Four Tar Heel swimmers achieved perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the spring semester -- Stephen Mohr, Laura Collier, Whitney Smith and Charlene Wong. Men's swimmers and divers who made the Dean's List included Michael Chenier, Sinisa Haberle, John Hartmann, Drew Hathaway, Stephen Krebs, Eric Mohr, Stephen Mohr, Yuri Suguiyama and Hal Wansley. Women's swimmers and divers on the Dean's List included Gena Bittner, Laura Collier, Molly Freedman, Elizabeth Misiti, Jessi Perruquet, Whitney Smith, Christy Watkins, Margie Witter and Charlene Wong.
Others with 3.0 GPA's or above for the spring were (men) Andrew Biedrzycki, Chris Helin, Greg Johnson, Kert Johnson, Seth Laughlin, Eddy Matkovich, Sebastien Moity, Reid Owen, Justin Rossi, Dan Vick and P.J. Wallin and (women) Becky Acker, Ashley Benner, Jessie Brosch, Melissa Fiss, Jennie Gardner, Katie Hathaway, Amanda Kline, Stefanie Rulis, Heather Stiles, Lori Thomas and Janna Turner.
