UNC's Catherine Vogt Named Head Coach Of U.S. Pan Pacific Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Catherine Vogt, a full-time assistant swimming coach at the University of North Carolina, has been named by United States Swimming as the head coach for the U.S. Open Water National Team at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria, British Columbia, August 17-21.

Pan Pacific Championships will be just a part of a busy summer of national and international events where Vogt will serve as a U.S. Swimming coaching staff member.

Vogt will also lead a contingent of returning UNC swimmers as well as incoming recruits, all of whom will compete in the United States Swimming Summer National Championships at Irvine, Calif., August 1-5. The Summer Nationals will serve as the qualifying meet for three upcoming international events -- the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia; the Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria, British Columbia in August 2006; and the Pan American Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July 2007.

Among the events where Vogt will coach include:

July 30-Aug. 5 U.S. Swimming National Championships, coaching for UNC and the North Carolina Aquatic Club

Aug. 6-12 Coach at U.S. National Team Training Camp in Irvine, Calif.

Aug. 13-22 Travel to Seattle, Wash., and then to Victoria, B.C. as head coach with U.S. National Open Water Swimming team

Aug 22-26 Travel to Lake Placid, N.Y., for Open Water World Championships Training Camp for the U.S. Team

Aug 26-Sept. 4 Travel to Naples, Italy for 2006 World Championships in Open Water Swimming
