Peterson Cops Fifth Place in Seville
June 11, 2007 SEVILLE, SPAIN - America's top open water swimmers competed in the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup Saturday, June 9, in Seville, Spain. Chloe Sutton emerged as the top American swimmer, finishing second in the women's competition. Winning the men's race was Thomas Lurz of Germany, followed by Russia's Vladimir Dyatchin and the Netherlands' Maartin van der Eijden. American Fran Crippen was fourth in the men's race, while 10K national champion Chip Peterson was fifth, Jon Flanagan (14th), Mark Warkentin (19th) and Noa Sakamoto (26th) round out the American men. Angela Mauer of Germany won the women's race, followed by Sutton and Brazil's Poliana Okimoto. The other American women competing were Kalyn Keller (6th place), Kirsten Groome (7th place) and Leah Gingrich (34th place).
