CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's diving team has announced the signing of five recruits who will enroll at Carolina in August 2005. Diving coach Kevin Lawrence made the announcement Tuesday. These five will join a pair of 2006 NCAA qualifiers who return to the team next season, senior Jon Fox and junior Ryan Funderburk, as well as sophomore Alex Kenley. UNC lost seniors Ryan Matuszak, Erich Gloege and Josh Weavil to graduation in the Class of 2006.

UNC's diving recruits include Austin Bradyhouse of Raleigh, N.C., Daniel Hathcock of Huntersville, N.C., Michael Kelly of Frederick, Md., David Solarz of Westlake, Ohio, and Michael Wilson of Dunwoody, Ga.

"The University of North Carolina swimming and diving program is very fortunate to have these five young men commit to Carolina. Not only will they add depth and talent to an already strong diving corps, but they have class and integrity - something that is essential to the success of our program," Lawrence said.

Bradyhouse dives for Tar Heel head coach Kevin Lawrence at the North Carolina Aquatic Club. He attends Leesville Road High School in Raleigh. He is a four-time all-conference and three-time all-state selection and was the 2004 North Carolina state high school runnerup.

Hathcock dives for UNC alumnus and former Carolina diving coach Ted Hautau at the Fuel Diving Club in Charlotte. He attends Hopewell High School. Hathcock is a four-time all-conference and three-time all-state selection. Kelly competes for coach Ida Harren at Frederick Area Divers. He attends Thomson Johnson High School and is a three-time county champion.

Solarz is coached by Jeff Arnold at Jade Diving. A scholar-athlete at Westlake High School, he is a high school All-America selection and Junior Olympic national qualifier. He has won conference, sectional and district diving titles.

Wilson competes for coach John Ames at the Atlanta Diving Association. He attends Dunwoody High School and is a high school All-America and Junior Olympic national qualifier. He was the county champion in 2005 and 2006.
