Chip Peterson Named Progress Energy Performer Of The Week

Freshman swimmer Chip Peterson, repeated as the United States Swimming 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer national champion in Open Water Swimming and is the Tar Heel of the Week for May 14-20, 2007. Peterson, who earned All-America honors at UNC this year, also qualified for the chance to earn spots on the 2007 U.S. World Championships and 2008 U.S. Olympic Teams.

Tim Federowicz did it all for the Tar Heels in an unbeaten week, as he hit .500 (8-16) with three doubles and four RBI and also worked 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief and earned his third save Tuesday against Winthrop. In the three-game sweep of Maryland, he had a pair of three-hit games, two-RBI games and hit a team-best .583 (7-12) in the series. He also went 2 1/3 shutout innings in the series finale, as the Tar Heels clinched their second straight Coastal Division crown.

On the season, Federowicz is batting .360 with 57 RBI and owns a 3.96 ERA over 16 appearances on the mound.

CHRISTINA JURAS
Women's Lacrosse, Attacker
Senior, Ellicott City, Md.

Juras scored a team-high three goals in her final college game as the Tar Heels lost in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals to Virginia last Saturday afternoon. Juras scored three goals in six shot attempts, including connecting on her only free position shot attempt of the afternoon. Juras finished the 2007 season with a team-high 57 points on 42 goals and 15 assists.

Walterhoefer excelled in Carolina's season-ending loss to Duke in the NCAA quarterfinals. He won 18 of 32 face-offs and scooped up 10 ground balls. Walterhoefer's effort gave him 221 face-off victories in 2007, allowing him to break the previous school record of 219 set by Kevin Frew in 2004. Walterhoefer claimed 113 ground balls on the season, the fourth highest total in Tar Heel history in a single campaign.

MARTIN URETA
Men's Golf
Senior, Santiago, Chile

Martin Ureta tied for eighth place at the NCAA East Regional played at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta. The Tar Heels were in 19th place after shooting a 305 in the first round, but responded splendidly with consecutive scores of two-under-par 286 to finish in eighth place and advance on to the NCAA Championship.

Ureta led the way for the Tar Heels. After an opening round two-over 74, Ureta fired a one-under 71 in the second round followed by a two-under 70 in the final round for a one-under 215 total and a tie for eighth place. Ureta finished just five strokes behind the co-winners, Florida's Billy Horschel and Georgia's Brendon Todd.

Carolina now travels to the NCAA Championship to be played May 30-June 2 at the Goden Horseshoe Golf Club, Gold Course, in Williamsburg, Va.
