Swimming Teams Earn Academic Honors from CSCAA

Tar Heels among elite in receiving honor.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's and women's swimming teams were amongst an elite group of college swimming teams recognized this month for their academic accomplishments by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

Both the Tar Heel men's and women's teams merited the CSCAA's Academic All-America Swimming Team honor for the fall semester of 1998.

A total of 192 teams in all NCAA divisions met the criteria for the awards last fall. To qualify for this honor the grade point average of the entire swimming and diving team, including all team members on the eligibility list, must average at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.

The North Carolina women's swimming team earned excellent status >from the CSCAA last fall as the team compiled a 3.009 grade point average.

The Tar Heel men's team was accorded commendable honors after completing the semester with a 2.901 composite grade point average.

A total of 33 men's NCAA Division I teams and 58 women's NCAA division I teams were amongst the CSCAA's honorees.
