Tar Heels Tap 2005-06 Tri-Captains

April 13, 2005

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina swimming and diving squads had their 2005-06 team captains named Wednesday by Tar Heel head coach Frank Comfort with Comfort choosing both squads to be led by tri-captains. Among those elected to captaincies are a pair of All-Americas.

The 2005-06 Tar Heel men's team will be captained by sprinter Jon Albrecht, a native of Akron, Ohio, butterflier Josh Glasco of Richmond, Va., and distance man/breaststroker Patrick Woodruff of Shoreline, Wash.

On the distaff side of things, Carolina will be spearheaded by breaststroker Lizzy Bruce, who hails from Wichita, Kan., diver gia Santoro of Stratford, Conn., and Becky Smock of Richmond, Va.

Smock is the only junior in the group. The remainder are seniors.

Bruce and Glasco have earned All-America accolades during their tenures at Carolina. Glasco has done so in two different years. Bruce won the 2005 ACC title in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Bruce, Glasco, Santoro and Woodruff have all earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors during their time at North Carolina.

Santoro is the first diver to ever be elected a captain of a women's swimming and diving team in North Carolina history.
