Catherine Vogt Named To U.S. Swimming Coaching Staffs

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina assistant swimming coach, Catherine Vogt, who has just finished her first year on the Tar Heel coaching staff has been named the head coach for the United States team which will compete in Open Water Pan American Games to be held in Salinas, Ecuador.

The event takes place May 17 (the 5K race) and May 19 (the 10k race.) The 10k race has recently been added as a future event in the Olympic Games. The U.S. will be taking three members from the recent World Championships team, inclduing Chip Peterson, an incoming freshman in August at UNC who signed a national letter of intent to attend Carolina last November.

Frock has also been named an assistant coach at the Open Water Select Camp to be held in Ft. Myers, Fla., May 31-June 3. During that time Open Water Nationals will be going on with the schedule as follows.
June 2 - 5K
June 4 - 10K
June 6 - 25K

The top two finishers in the 10K, the top finisher in the 5K and the top two finishers in the 25K will make the 2006 World Championships Team. The Wrold Championshops will be held in Naples, Italy at the end of August.
