Men's Swimmers Begin NCAA Participation Thursday
March 27, 2002 ATHENS, GA. - The 2002 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships begin Thursday at 11 a.m. at sold-out Gabrielson Natatorium at the University of Georgia with Tar Heels Yuri Suguiyama and Sean Quinn competing. Suguiyama, a sophomore freestyler from Ijamsville, Md., has qualified in two events--the 500-yard freestyle and the 1650-yard freestyle. The 500 is swum on Thursday and the 1650 on Saturday.
Junior Sean Quinn of Lancaster, S.C., will swim the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday and the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday. Quinn finished eighth in the 200 as a freshman in 2000 and 17th as a sophomore in 2001. He is the #4 seed this year in the event.
