Tar Heels Designate 2006-07 Team Captains

March 20, 2006

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - In a vote of the North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving coaching staff, an octet of Tar Heels have been designated as the quad captains of each team for the 2006-07 campaign.

It was a precedent setting vote for the program as neither team has been led by more than three captains at any time in their histories.

The men's captains include two juniors and two seniors. Three seniors and one junior were chosen for the women's squad.

On the men's side the captains are senior diver Jon Fox (Neenah, Wis.), senior breaststroker Aaron Burns (Sinking Spring, Pa.), junior freestyler Rob Swendiman (Kensington, Md.) and junior backstroker Keith Laabs (Memphis, Tenn.). Fox is the third diver in the past 12 seasons to be named a team captain, joining Joe Craft (1994-95) and Stephen Krebs (2002-03).

The women's captains include senior freestryler Erin Cutrell (Ligonier, Pa.), junior butterflier Lindsey Marck (Newtown, Pa.), senior butterflier Becky Smock (Richmond, Va.) and senior backstroker Emily Reardon (Marietta, Ga.).
