Tar Heel men look to improve on last year's finish. March 12, 1999
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Five members of the University of North Carolina's 16th-ranked men's swimming and diving team have been invited to compete in the 1999 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Championships will be conducted March 25-27, 1999 at the Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Carolina's contingent for the NCAA Championships includes two seniors, two sophomores and one freshman. This group includes senior Ted Brisson of Goldsboro, N.C., freshman Kevin Erndl of Martinez, Ga., sophomore Ethan Hall of Pleasant Hill, Calif., sophomore Brad Kline of Charlotte, N.C., and senior Tucker Shade of Decatur, Ill.
North Carolina has qualified to swim four relays at the NCAA Championships-the 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay. It is in the relays that Carolina is expected to make its greatest impact at this year's NCAA Championships.
The Tar Heels' will be looking to improve on a 30th-place finish at the 1998 NCAA Championships when only Brisson and Shade earned NCAA invitations.
