Swimming Teams Host 1999 Senior Day

Tar Heels to face Maryland and Virginia Tech.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina's nationally-ranked men's and women's swimming teams will host their final home meet of the 1998-99 season Saturday afternoon against the Maryland Terrapins and the Virginia Tech Hokies at the Maurice J. Koury Natatorium on the UNC campus.

Admission is free. The Carolina men, ranked 14th nationally, are 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the ACC heading into Saturday's meet. The Tar Heel women, ranked 18th nationally, are 5-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the ACC.

Saturday's competition against the Terps and the Hokies marks the final home appearance for 16 Tar Heels seniors. Short bios of those 16 swimmers and divers follow:

Ted Brisson, Senior, Goldsboro, N.C.
Tri-Captain of 1998-99 Tar Heel Team*ACC champion in 100-yard backstroke in 1996 and 1998*All-America in 1997 and 1998*first-team Academic All-America in 1998*inducted into Phi Beta Kappa as a junior.

Elizabeth Bursiek, Senior, Chapel Hill, N.C.
Three-time letter winner at Carolina*three-year selection to the ACC Academic Honor Roll*is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society at UNC*boasts a 3.6 GPA.

Katie Coates, Senior, Milledgeville, Ga.
Three-time letter winner and dependable member of the UNC breaststroke corps*has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll each of the past three years*active participant in ACC Outreach Program.

Kelsey Durkin, Senior, Winter Park, Fla.
1998-99 Tri-captain of the Tar Heels*three-time letter winner*two-time member of ACC Academic Honor Roll*fourth fastest 200-yard backstroker in North Carolina history*winner of the Jamerson Most Improved Swimmer Award last year at Carolina.

Catherine Frock, Senior, Pinehurst, N.C.
Three-time returning letter winner*3.2 GPA at Carolina*has made the ACC Academic Honor Roll at Carolina each of the past two years*a regular on the UNC Dean's List*an outstanding distance freestyler.

Hilary Hoskins, Senior, Raleigh, N.C.
A three-year letter winner and outstanding contributor to the UNC swimming program*one of the leaders in the ACC Outreach Program at UNC*Named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll last year.

Chris Jennings, Senior, Greenwich, Conn.
