North Carolina Swimming And Diving Tops Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Continuing a strong start to the season, the North Carolina Swimming and Diving teams beat the Virginia Tech Hokies Saturday afternoon in War Memorial Pool. The No. 9 Tar Heel women won 178-106 while the No. 14 Tar Heel men finished with a score of 186-111.

The North Carolina men set pool records in eight events: the 200 medley relay, 1,000 free, 50 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 200 freestyle relay, 100 fly and 100 breast. On the women's side, Carolina freshman Becky Acker set a pool record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.98.

With the win, the Carolina women improve to 4-1, and the men improve to 3-1. The Tar Heels will return to action Jan. 5 in the Cocoa Beach Invitational in Cocoa Beach, Fl. The Virginia Tech men and women drop to 4-3 with the loss and will swim Jan. 31 against James Madison at home.
