Tar Heel Swimmers Place 11 In Super Finals Of Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The North Carolina men's and women's swimming teams combined to place 11 swimmers into the super finals, 16 swimmers into the finals and nine swimmers into the consolations on the opening morning of the 2008 Gamecock Invitational Thursday morning at the University of South Carolina's Blatt PE Center Natatorium. Diving preliminaries in one-meter diving will be held early this afternoon.

Tar Heel swimmers combined to set 24 season-best times in Thursday morning's session. The finals Thursday will begin at 6 p.m.

The women's team has two super finalists in each of the three swimming events on Thursday as sophomore Katura Harvey and junior Ashley Howard qualified in the 500-yard freestyle, junior Alison Clemens and freshman Layne Brodie in the 200-yard individual medley and junior Megan Steeves and sophomore Rebecca Kane in the 50-yard freestyle.

On the men's side, sophomore Chip Peterson, senior Yi-Khy Saw and sophomore Joe Kinderwater qualified in the 500-yard freestyle and sophomore Tyler Harris and junior Jeff James in the 200-yard individual medley.
